Who Am I? & Why do I write Children’s Books?
I am an everyday mom chasing around three beautiful children each day, and cleaning a dish or two when they let me! I write children’s books inspired from my own life.
My books cover two different themes, humor and loss. I write humorous and sincere books inspired by the joyous, crazy, and funny moments I have with my three children, Ava, Vincent, and Decklan. I also write comforting and heartfelt books to help families and children who are dealing with loss, from my own experience of losing my first son, Kendrick.
I hope my work as an author helps all families to embrace parenthood, cherish childhood, laugh at the crazy, and soak in the good - for life is fleeting and every moment counts for something.
Some of my favorite things:
It’s no surprise my children are my favorite things – my family is my everything.
I also love macaroni and cheese, hot apple cider, Virginia Tech football, napping on the beach, & reading stories to my children.
Before writing books:
I graduated from Virginia Tech in 2006 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, and minor in Philosophy.
I graduated from The George Washington University in 2014 with a Master's Degree in School Counseling.
Prior to settling in as a stay at home mom in 2015, I worked as an Environmental Analyst for over 8 years. Now I’m taking on the world of authorship and look forward to the journey ahead.
My commitment to giving back:
In my heart lies a very special place for Children's National Health System where my first born son, Kendrick, was treated, and where he unfortunately passed away in 2009 due to complications of Heterotaxy Syndrome and congenital heart disease. My experience in losing my son has inspired much of my writing and has also shaped me into the mother and person I am today. The care he received was the very best. The people we encountered from doctors, nurses, social workers, parent liaisons, cafeteria workers, and the list goes on, were the most compassionate and kindhearted people. It is because of this experience and the desire to honor Kendrick, that I am committed to giving back to Children's.
